ITINERARY
(10 days/9 nights)

DAY 1 Arrive in Quito. You will be met at the airport by a ECOSPORT representative and escorted to Hostal Santa Barbara, a beautiful colonial house that has been converted into a charming bed and breakfast.

DAY 2 Riobamba. Through the heart of the ¨Avenue of the Volcanoes¨, we head south towards the beautiful city of Riobamba. Its architecture and serene environment takes us back to the 18th century. As we acclimatize to the altitude, we take an easy walking tour through the colonial quarters of Riobamba.

DAY 3 Chimborazo. The sub-arctic like terrain of Chimborazo (6,310 m/ 20,700 ft, the highest snow-capped volcano of Ecuador) spreads before us as we begin our day mountain biking. Challenges for experts as well as for amateurs await.

DAY 4-5 Carihuairazo. The adventure continues with a hike through the Carihuairazo foothills until we reach an altitude of 4,500 m/14,763 ft, where we will camp. The next day we head to the top (5,028 m/ 16,496 ft) on a trail with rocky edges and glaciers. When we summit, enjoy the incredible view of the active conical stratovolcano Tungurahua.

DAY 6-7-8 Altar. After a well-deserved rest, we start our morning visiting the Guano community, where local artisans weave their well-known rugs made of natural fibers. At night, we arrive at the rustic Hacienda Releche. Early the next day we head by horseback towards Altar or Capac Urco in Quechua which means “Ruler of all Mountains.” This extinct crater has 9 distinct peaks and is considered one of the most beautiful and remote places of Ecuador. Spend the night in a refuge in the Collanes Valley. In the morning, hike to Laguna Amarilla, lodged in the Altar crater surrounded by majestic rocky tops and hanging glaciers. Return to Hacienda Releche for a good night’s rest.
